About Therapy with Ben (the ‘service’)

Therapy with Ben is a counselling and food therapy service based in the United Kingdom offering counselling and food therapy to clients who:

  • Are 18+

  • Live in the United Kingdom

  • Do not have a clinical diagnosis of an eating disorder

All counselling or food therapy sessions provided by Therapy with Ben are conducted online via secure video conferencing (Zoom).

Online counselling is provided in line with:

  • The BACP Ethical Framework for the Counselling Professions (2018)

  • Relevant safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection requirements

Before online counselling begins:

  • The suitability of this format will be discussed and agreed

  • You will be informed of any potential limitations or risks

  • Informed consent will be obtained

Reasonable steps are taken to protect your privacy and confidentiality during online sessions. However, you are responsible for:

  • Ensuring you are in a private and secure location

  • Using a reliable internet connection and suitable device

While every effort is made to provide continuity of service, Therapy with Ben is not responsible for interruptions caused by technical difficulties beyond reasonable control (such as internet outages or platform failures).

If a session is disrupted due to technical difficulties, Therapy with Ben reserves the right to:

  • Pause the session while reasonable attempts are made to resolve the issue

  • Continue the session via an alternative agreed method (such as telephone) where possible

  • Reschedule the session where it is not possible to continue safely or effectively

Where a session cannot be completed due to technical difficulties beyond reasonable control, arrangement regarding fees, refunds, or rescheduling will be discussed and handled fairly, in line with professional and ethical obligations under the BACP (2018) Ethical Framework.

The online counselling and food therapy provided by Therapy with Ben is not suitable for crisis support. If you are experiencing immediate distress or are at risk of harm, you should contact emergency services or an appropriate crisis support service - a list of which can be found below.

Further details about online working arrangements, boundaries, and confidentiality will be provided as part of the counselling agreement prior to counselling or food therapy commencing.

Session fees and payment

The fee for a 50-minute counselling or food therapy session is £60 (sixty pounds).

Unless otherwise agreed:

  • Payment is required 48-hours in advance of each session

  • Sessions will not take place unless payment has been received

  • Fees are reviewed periodically, and any changes will be communicated in advance

Payment is made using bank transfer, details of which will be provided clearly in contract form prior to the first session commencing.

If payment is not received by the agreed time, Therapy with Ben reserves the right to:

  • Cancel or postpone the session

  • Withhold further sessions until payment is received

Any arrangements regarding missed payments, refunds, or exceptional circumstances will be handled fairly and discussed openly, in line with professional and ethical responsibilities.

Full details relating to fees, payment methods, and any cancellation or refund policies will be outlined in the counselling agreement provided before counselling or food therapy begins.

Cancellation and non-attendance (no-shows)

Therapy with Ben recognises that occasionally clients may need to cancel or reschedule sessions.

Unless otherwise agreed:

  • A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange a session

  • Cancellations made with less than the required notice may be charged at the full session fee

  • Session missed without notice (“no-shows”) will be charged in full

This policy reflects the fact that session time is reserved exclusively for you and cannot usually be filled at short notice.

Exceptions may be made in exceptional circumstances, at the discretion of Therapy with Ben, and will be considered fairly and compassionately in line with the BACP Ethical Framework (2018)

If Therapy with Ben needs to cancel a session, reasonable notice will be given wherever possible and you will be offered a rescheduled session.

Full details of Therapy with Ben’s cancellation and non-attendance policy will be explained and agreed as part of the counselling agreement before sessions begin.

Session times and late arrival

Counselling sessions are scheduled for a specific time and duration.

If you arrive late to a session:

  • The session will still end at the originally scheduled time

  • The full session fee remains payable

  • Lost time cannot usually be made up

This helps ensure fairness, protects other client’s session time, and maintains clear professional boundaries.

If you arrive late to a session:

  • A grace period of 15 minutes applies. If you arrive within this time, the session will continue for the remaining scheduled duration

  • If you arrive after the 15-minute grace period, the session may be cancelled and the full session fee will normally still apply

  • Lost time cannot usually be made up, unless an alternative agreement is made

If Therapy with Ben is late for a session:

  • The session time will be extended where possible

  • Or alternative arrangements will be made.

Repeated late arrival may be discussed as part of the therapeutic work or as a practical issue affecting the counselling agreement.
